BLM Paradigm Project Video - Establishing fuel breaks in high fire frequency area

Video recording

The BLM plans to create 350 miles of fire breaks between Boise and Glenns Ferry in hopes of catching fires when they're small. Many wildfires have burned in the 65-mile corridor because of vehicle or lightning fires.

The BLM Boise District is working together with the rancher-led Mountain Home Rangeland Fire Protection Association, Idaho Dept. of Lands, and the Idaho Transportation Department.

If they can be successful in stopping the fire cycle in this travel corridor, then they can work more on restoring shrub-steppe habitat in the region. The northern portion of the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area would benefit from habitat restoration activities to provide more habitat for the nation's largest nesting population of birds of prey.
