SUMMARY:The southwestern range - Audio story from PRX
DESCRIPTION:Access audio story\nThis audio story discusses the southwestern range: the number of stakeholders who own land\, each with a very different understanding of what it should be used for: private owners—who could be ranchers or developers\, as well as average residents– Native American tribes\, state agencies that own land\, federal agencies that manage public land (which is further divided between national forest\, Bureau of Land Management land\, and national wildlife refuge property). Of course\, the ecology is unaware of these boundaries.

SUMMARY:Sagebrush Steppe Treatment Evaluation Project (SageSTEP) six-year update
DESCRIPTION:This webinar presents findings from SageSTEP scientists\, who have collected 6 years of post-treatment data from 20 sites throughout the Great Basin\, and now have a fairly certain understanding of short-term vegetation response to fire and mechanical treatments on about half of those sites. While post-treatment recovery to a more desirable condition is evident at some sites (i.e. more bunchgrasses)\, the warmer and drier sites continue to be dominated by exotic annual grasses. \nWebinar recording

SUMMARY:Characterization of montane ecosystems\, their microclimates\, and wildlife distribution
DESCRIPTION:Webinar recording \nErik Beever\, USGS\, presented this webinar to the Great Basin LCC on his results on pika distribution and climate change using historical surveys\, more-systematic and more-comprehensive recent surveys\, and a diversity of technological and modeling advances. The information will help tackle numerous questions at the interface of how Great Basin systems work and how Basin resources may be managed and conserved\, amidst contemporary climate change and other influences.
